Personal Injury & Insurance Disputes

Joelle focuses her work on litigation, personal injury and insurance dispute files. Joelle also will defend Provincial Offence Act matters. In May 2011, Joelle had her first big win when she successfully defended a client on a fail to remain at the scene of a accident charge.

Joelle Briggs-Sears loves the Quinte area. She is a lifelong Quinte resident; first by opportunity and now by choice. Being close to family and friends drew her back to Quinte and her commitment to family shapes her concern for people in need and continues to define her commitment to her clients.

After attending Quinte Secondary School, Joelle graduated with distinction from the business administration program at Brock University in 2007. Satisfying that urge to ‘go west’ Joelle studied law at the University of Calgary for one year, returning to Eastern Ontario to graduate from Queen’s University in 2010.

“I get to help individuals in my community every single day that desperately need an advocate.”

Concern for people’s rights, the well-being of the individual and Joelle’s personal strengths led her to two career paths within the legal profession. These were explored through a split articling experience; one with one of her former professors in the field of estate litigation and the other at Bonn Law in the field of personal injury and insurance benefits disputes.

Being a lawyer to Joelle means being involved. Joelle is a member of the Ontario Trial Lawyers Association and the Hastings County Law Association; but, being involved is meaningless unless the contribution is a reflection of her family and her belief in community. Joelle’s contribution is real; her efforts are part who she is and she has suitably chosen organizations that are helping people; an extension of her work philosophy. She has worked with organizations such as soldieron, Trenton Memorial Hospital Foundation, Canadian Cancer Society, Heart and Stroke, and currently is the board chair of the local VON board.

Joelle could not be described without a reference to her husband Bricen and her parents Joy, Bill and Brian. They are her biggest fans and she theirs.

When not in the office Joelle can be found hitting the pavement training for her first ½ marathon, at the family farm, exploring the area on the ATV, enjoying a stop at one of the many excellent local café’s or wineries, partaking in games nights with family and friends or enjoying some couch time with her two adorable basset hounds!

Joelle also writes the occasional post for the Bonn Law Blawg, sharing her thoughts and a few tips.
