Lawyers and those who use the services of the Salvation Army would be generally thought to be complete opposites when it comes to socioeconomic status.
Today (Saturday) at Belleville’s Salvation Army Community and Family Services headquarters on Pinnacle Street the stereotypes were kicked to the curb.
The balance of power was turned on its head at the first monthly “Brunch Bunch” put on by members of the city’s legal community.
There was no solicitor-client privilege at this midday meeting. Lawyers and others involved in the legal business of the city along with a couple of members of Belleville city council prepared a good warm brunch for the much less fortunate members of the community.
Around 80 people enjoyed sausages, eggs, beans, toast, fruit and beverages and had a good time in the process.
The “Brunch Bunch” will occur one Saturday a month and was organized by defence lawyer Ruth Roberts of Bonn Law.
For much of the year there is no free lunch for the poor offered in Belleville on weekends so the “Brunch Bunch” will be a welcome addition for more than just a few people.
Lunch is offered Monday through Friday, either at the Salvation Army or Eastminster United Church.
The Brunch was prepared and served by:
